The Weigh To Shop is a Durham based business owned and run by husband and wife James and Sarah. Our aim is very simple: to reduce waste. That waste includes the packaging and its contents.

We want to create a shop where everyone could feel welcome and shop more sustainably; whether you are an experienced zero waste shopper or making that first step into a more sustainable life, we’re here to help.

We do what we do because we dislike waste of any kind. We tried to change how we shop after watching the BBC programme ‘War in Plastic’ in 2019. This highlighted two key points for us; how much plastic is in daily life and how much recycling does not get recycled. We tried to change how we shopped but found it was not as easy as expected. As a result we had the idea of our own zero waste shop and a plan was hatched. After our circumstances changed we turned that plan into a reality.

We want to encourage and support our customers to make small changes like reusing containers they already have and refilling with life’s essentials. Making small changes to your shopping habits can drastically reduce non-recyclable plastic from landfill.
