The Heritage Seed Library (HSL) maintains the national collection of heritage vegetables and aims to conserve vegetable varieties that are not widely available, sharing seed with its members to grow and enjoy. It offers citizen science and research into practical organic growing techniques and to study the socio-economic, health, and environmental effects of gardening and local food production. It works with sectors including education, healthcare, local authorities, Public Health, NHS, housing associations, businesses and community groups, to support the creation of growing spaces and garden. It offers an annual programme or trainng, an on-line suit of courses and bespoke training for professional gardeners and public spaces, public sector organisations, schools, prisons, social care providers and community groups. It also works with sectors including education, healthcare, local authorities, Public Health, NHS, housing associations, businesses and community groups to run successful projects.
