Dryden Farms is a family run farming business, situated between Durham City and the north-east coast. Initially farming 200 acres (80ha) in the 1970’s, our business has steadily grown to farm approximately 650 acres (263ha) of the following crops: wheat, barley, oats, oil seed rape, oats, beans.
We currently have a flock of 20 ewes at Murton Moor Farm. Judith has always had a passion for rearing sheep and she first introduced a flock to the farm in 2013. The flock is kept very naturally.
We currently produce 5 batches of pigs a year. They arrive with us as 9 week old piglets, and we rear them up to 18 weeks, when they move to a finishing farm. They are looked after on a daily basis with a weekly visit from a pig specialist. We also have 12 weekly vet inspections from multiple agencies including the RSPCA and Freedom Foods ensuring our pigs are kept to the highest of welfare standards. We are often asked why we keep pigs, and the answer is simple – it helps us grow good crops! The pigs produce manure which is rich in potassium, nitrogen and phosphorus. This gets put back on to the fields after harvest, giving us a cost effect and sustainable form of nutrition for our soil and growing crops.
Dryden Farms are proud to produce free-range Bronze turkeys for Christmas. We have been producing turkeys at Murton Moor Farm since 1998, when Judith introduced her first flock of 150 KellyBronze turkeys. This has grown over the years and we now rear in excess of 450 bronze turkeys each year.
