IK Fish is open in Unit 53 in the Market Hall. It is open from 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday. The stall is supplied by Hodgson Fish, the largest independent fish merchant in the North of England, bringing fresh produce in each morning, largely from Hartelepool Fish Quay. And if you have any enquiries about how best to prepare the fish you find there, why not talk to the staff.
A family-owned fishmonger has returned to Durham Market Hall, ensuring the continuation of a business launched nearly 40 years ago. Sisters Honey and Lilly Kennedy, have taken ownership of the Hodgson Fish Market Stall which is once again known by its original name, IK Fish. The stall, supplying fresh fish and seafood, largely sourced from Hartlepool Fish Quay, was originally launched by their father, Ian Kennedy, in 1986 when he was 21. In recent years, the business has been operated by Hartlepool Fish Quay wholesalers Hodgson Fish, for which Ian is now the Operations Director. Honey, age 26, and Lilly, age 22, have several years of market trading experience between them, operating the popular Café Cenno on the Mezzanine Level of Durham Market Hall, and are now relaunching IK Fish.
