Situated on the banks of the River Till, Heatherslaw Cornmill is the only working watermill in Northumberland still producing stoneground,wholemeal flour using traditional milling methods from wheat grown on the Ford & Etal Estates. There is no other mill in County Durham or Northumberland that produces bread quality, stoneground wholewheat flour using the traditional methods AND locally grown wheat. Heatherslaw Mill produce is sold via retail outlets in Northumberland, Co Durham and Borders.
The Mill is a working museum and is open to the public from mid-March to the end of October, so visitors can view the fully restored 19th century machinery at work, and see the whole milling process from grain to flour.
